This was the second year I was accepted into the Zodiac Music Academy & Festival as a composer fellow. It was a tremendous trip. I learned so much about myself, my music, and what can be accomplished in various communal endeavors.
I learned a lot more about composition and how it may or may not affect emotions. You can read about that here. I made new friends, and as a result have the honor and privilege to be writing some music for beautiful people, who are immensely talented. (more…)
This summer, in Valdeblore, France, I wrote a trio. The cellist, clarinetist, and pianist brought it to life and made it absolutely beautiful. It was a summer of validation, of friendship, and new musical influences. (more…)
Nouveau Classical Project: Sacred Profane
A great concert, and why it’s great that they’re great.
Thursday, April 9, 2015, 8PM Flamboyán Theater
I have been a fan of the Nouveau Classical Project from afar for a while now. (Now I live in the same city, so I’m a fan up close.) They are an ensemble that plays wonderful classical and contemporary music (really, they just play good music) and incorporate fashion and beautiful aesthetic approaches to their shows. This is always fun. Here are my 12 favorite artists/album/songs/pieces of music that have helped define 2013 for me.

This is my first time (in)formally reviewing an album. My immediate disclaimer is that I am reviewing this solely from the point-of-view of a music lover. This will not be a scholarly response to one’s music (if the reader expects that.)
It is with great conviction that I attempt to review (commend and praise) this album in the hopes that others will want to give it a go.
My review’s thesis statement: this album rocks. (more…)
We accept the success we think we deserve.
Boy, am I going to live up to that.
As it would happen I spent another 4 days in NYC. This time it was upon gracious invitation of Eli Zoller, to play for his show. I arrived 2 days prior to the shindig, having never heard his music. (more…)
